The Alberni Valley

We have Della Falls, the highest waterfall in Canada, and Mt. Arrowsmith, the highest mountain on southern Vancouver Island. We have the only quarter-mile drag strip on Vancouver Island (our Thunder in the Valley Drag Race is an event for everyone, even if you’re not a car nut), and we’re the only city in B.C. to host all four B.C. Games: Winter, Summer, Seniors, and Athletes with Disabilities. The first Old Age Pension cheque was given here in 1927, and we’re the birthplace of Kim Campbell, Canada’s first female prime minister.

Geography

The Alberni Valley straddles Highway 4 on Vancouver Island, from the east end of Cameron Lake to the western tip of Sproat Lake. Encompassing Mt Arrowsmith, Cameron Lake, Cathedral Grove, MacMillan Provincial Park, the City of Port Alberni, and Sproat Lake, including Taylor Arm Provincial Park and Fossli Provincial Park. The terrain is diverse, with low-lying areas around the north end of the Alberni inlet, primeval rainforests, wild mountain regions, and Mt. Arrowsmith, the highest peak (elevation 1,819 m) on Southern Vancouver Island. Getting here is easy.
